"Ambient" Exhibition

Emphasizing tone and atmosphere over traditional structure or rhythm, this show will feature three artists working in photography, ceramics and mixed media illustration.

Tomas Alvarez (Woodbury, MN) is a photographer who likes to explore the intersection of math, time and visual interest. Most of his pieces are long exposure photographs with digital processing and printed on luster paper. In his practice, Alvarez has incorporated math elements in terms of scale, curves and composition. He uses the Golden Ration in many of his works, which feature natural spaces and north shore landscapes. His work as a computer programmer is the source of his intersecting interest in math and digital photography.

Marty Harris (Minneapolis, MN) fuses printmaking, drawing and digital illustration. His works draw references from his suburban home, back yard and also from north shore spaces and wildlife. Overlapping layers of figures, small sketches, birds, trees and other details give a sense of movement and energy. At close viewing, the pieces are full of intricate details, while seen from afar they offer an abstracted landscape and contrast between wild and domesticated spaces.

Carol Patt (Mahtomedi, MN) is an educator who worked with children and adults for 30 years. After her retirement from teaching in 2017, she has focused on her preferred medium, clay. Her pieces make use of both form and imagery, allowing for many possibilities with color and texture. She seeks to emulate qualities found in natural objects, and illuminating the connectivity of the natural world.

The opening reception for Ambient is Sunday, February 23 from 2-4pm. Everyone is welcome!
