"New Views on Pattern & Decoration" Opening Reception

By using strong, saturated colors and highly designed backgrounds, Alice Blessing, Carrie Katzenmeyer and Kirsten Yocum typify a new aesthetic in art that recalls the pattern and decorative movement of the 1970s. Blessing’s work uses powerful, emotive backgrounds to portray strength and vibrancy in her portraits. Katzenmeyer’s works tell stories that are whimsical while being grounded in her Indigenous and Scandinavian heritage. Yocum utilizes intense, color saturation that is complex and unfolds in time for the viewer.
