By using strong, saturated colors and highly designed backgrounds, Alice Blessing, Carrie Katzenmeyer and Kirsten Yocum typify a new aesthetic in art that recalls the pattern and decorative movement of the 1970s. Blessing’s work uses powerful, emotive backgrounds to portray strength and vibrancy in her portraits.
