Young Scientists Look for Lichens

Young Scientists Look for Lichens

Presented by Interstate State Park - Minnesota at Interstate State Park-Minnesota

Kids, bring your adult with you for a morning of hands-on outdoor exploration. You’ll head out on a scavenger hunt for strange organisms called lichens among the park’s rocks and trees. Then, use a microscope to get a better look. Before you go home, you’ll get tips on how you can continue the outdoor adventure in your own backyard and even share what you find with others.

This program is best for ages 7-11, but older or younger siblings are welcome to follow along. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Dress for the weather and pack a snack. We will walk less than a mile, with some uneven ground along the way. Meet at the park’s visitor center (at the north entrance of the park near the stoplights in Taylors Falls).

Admission Info

This program is free, but a state park permit is required on vehicles entering the park. These can be purchased for $7 for the day or $35 for the year.
