Meet the New Executive Director!

Presented by Great River Road Visitor & Learning Center at Freedom Park at Great River Road Visitor & Learning Center at Freedom Park

Prescott area families are invited to Freedom Park to meet Israel Haas, the new Executive Director of the Great River Road Visitor and Learning Center at Freedom Park.  The first open house will be held on Sunday Oct 20th from 2 to 4 P.M. A second party is scheduled for Thursday Oct 24th from 5 to 7 P.M.  During each event Israel will share some words with the audience about his vision for the Center. Come and shake Israel’s hand, welcome him and then enjoy refreshments, view an art show, listen to music, learn about upcoming programming such as the chimney swift tower work, read wonderful comments made by visitors, talk to your neighbors, win a door prize, and join with our cadre of volunteers who support this “Jewel of Prescott.”

This celebration has the additional purpose of recognizing the many volunteers who “stepped up” to ensure that the Learning Center continued its programming during the staffing change.  Board members, staff, greeters, gardeners, and others all donated numerous extra hours to keep the center running smoothly.

Executive Director Israel Haas lives in Prescott with his wife Melinda, three children, two dogs and a bearded dragon.  His family strives to model sustainable living and respect for nature.  The new position at the Learning Center will formalize his efforts to preserve natural environment, honor history, and educate people of all ages.  As a Prescott resident, Israel has already cultivated deep roots here.  People will recognize him as a member of Kiwanis, the Chamber of Commerce, and school activities.  Israel holds a B.S. in Biology from UW Stevens Point, two master’s degrees and doctoral coursework at UW Madison. He also has a wide range of experience in non-profit organizations, academic institutions, and large corporate environments.

The Haas family regularly walks to Freedom Park from their nearby home to enjoy the views.  Israel has stated that his job at the park is to “mobilize a new generation to love, treasure, and protect this park, the gateway to the Great River Road and all the life this river valley sustains.”
