Return of the Trumpeter Swan

Return of the Trumpeter Swan

Presented by The Trumpeter Swan Society at Great River Road Visitor & Learning Center at Freedom Park

In this free program, The Trumpeter Swan Society’s Margaret Smith will share the story of the return of trumpeter swans to North America and the key players in their return.

Each region has its own story with the Midwest flights to the wilds of Alaska to collect eggs, to the ongoing restoration of the Rocky Mountain Population, and the growing abundance of swans in the Pacific Northwest and the habitat and health issues swans face today. A special emphasis will include the Wisconsin and Minnesota restoration stories. Margaret’s presentation will also include “Trumpeter Swan 101” with basics about trumpeter swans and their annual cycle.

Margaret Smith is the Executive Director of The Trumpeter Swan Society. For over 50 years, The Trumpeter Swan Society has been the only nonprofit working on Trumpeter Swan issues across North America at the local, state and national levels. Their mission is to assure the vitality and welfare of wild trumpeter swans. Program areas of TTSS are restoration and management of trumpeter swans, habitat security and swan health, and education and research about trumpeter swans, including their citizen science Trumpeter Watch program.
