"Far from Tame" with Laurie Allmann

Presented by ArtReach St. Croix and Osceola Public Library at Watershed Cafe

POSTPONED until Wednesday, April 17 due to the forecast.

Join Laurie Allmann for a discussion on how nature “provides an alternate map of this region, charting new boundaries based on natural communities and ecosystems.” NEA Big Read author Emily St. John Mandel sets “Station Eleven” around the Great Lakes, the same region explored in local essayist and naturalist Laurie Allmann’s book “Far From Tame: Reflections from the Heart of a Continent”.

Grab a glass of wine or another treat from the cafe and join this casual evening of thoughtful discussion.

These excerpts from “Far from Tame” are provided as an optional pre-read. https://www.artreachstcroix.org/far-from-tame-selections/
Laurie will also be referencing “The World Without Us” by Alan Weisman and “Lands of Lost Borders” by Kate Harris.

THIS JUST IN: Author Laurie Allmann is excited to be joined by terrific young cellist Alice Ryan. Alice is 15 years old and lives in West St Paul, where she is a sophomore at Visitation School. She plays cello in her school orchestra, and also performs with the Concert Orchestra in the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies and at the MacPhail Center for Music. Attendees are in for a treat!

ArtReach has a few copies of “Far from Tame” to loan. Copies of the book are also available for check out at the Osceola Public Library.
