Zoom in February 17th, 12pm CT – FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Throughout 2022, A House Unbuilt’s Victoria and Tom Styrbicki are reaching into their archive of stories from the Mississippi River and sharing them over Zoom. With a focus on the river through the lens of race, climate and home, Victoria and Tom will share audio clips, photos, and text as part of a conversation that brings these stories into the present day.
Join us for our second episode on February 17th at noon where we’ll start at the Headwaters with Terry Larson, “first man of the river” who makes his home near Itasca. We know there’s been great change to this region over the past two years, please come and update the story. We’ll then travel to Paul Dressen with the Prairie Island Indian Community who taught us the story of the Dakota people bringing back the buffalo, a deep connection with ancestors and land.
From there we’ll move to Roger Krieger, a “small” farmer in Burlington, Iowa doing his part to treat the land and water right through planting cover crop. Finally we’ll land at Richie Blink down in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana where that Iowa water is impacting the wetlands and Richie is working to protect his community. The river tells stories that are relevant today in addition to its great histories, and we should listen and engage. Come connect with us and share your stories as well.
