Solar for Stillwater Schools

Presented by Sustainable Stillwater MN at Online/Virtual Space

ISD 834 can save on major utility expenses and help protect our children’s future.

“[Solar for Schools Webinar]” takes place on Thursday, April 21, at 7:00 pm.  Join us for this informational webinar about options for solar energy for the Stillwater Area Public Schools ISD 834.

The State of Minnesota’s Solar for Schools program has $8 million in funding available for schools served by Xcel Energy. This grant money was appropriated by the Minnesota legislature as part of the 2021 Omnibus bill. Shifting to solar energy for the school district is a great choice for many reasons, including lowering energy costs, capitalizing on Minnesota’s forward-thinking and leadership role in solar energy, and caring for our children’s future.  Learn more about how these benefits can be brought to bear in our school district.

A variety of speakers will offer their perspectives on why installing solar is the right thing at the right time for Stillwater schools. Peter Lindstrom is an expert on solar energy options for public school systems and works for CERTs (Clean Energy Resource Teams), which is associated with the University of Minnesota.  He will talk about the basics of solar, solar in schools, and how the state grant money in Xcel Energy territory will work. Other speakers include a teacher and students from Stillwater High School, representatives from nearby school districts that have already installed solar, and other local community members.

This event is being planned by a coalition of community organizations and concerned citizens and is co-sponsored by Sustainable Stillwater MN and St. Croix Valley Indivisible.
