SCANDIA HISTORY SERIES: HISTORIC WALKING TOUR - SCANDIA VILLAGE CENTER

SCANDIA HISTORY SERIES: HISTORIC WALKING TOUR - SCANDIA VILLAGE CENTER

Presented by Scandia Heritage Alliance at Scandia Creamery

Ever pondered the stories behind Scandia’s historic buildings? What businesses flourished on Olinda Trail and Oakhill Road in the late 1800s and early 1900s? And have you heard our tales of bank robbery, Dillinger visits, fire, and tornado?

Join us at the Scandia Creamery for coffee and pastries along with a short presentation on historic Mainstreet Architecture from Ted Lentz — the preservation architect who oversaw the State Capitol restoration in St. Paul.

Guests will be divided into small groups for a historic walking tour of the Scandia Village Center that will end with lunch at Meister’s Bar & Grill. A sweet snack will be provided at the Scandia Mercantile. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes!

Tour stops with brief histories will include:

Scandia Creamery
Historic Frank and Ida Lake House (Mike and Heather Benson)
Scandia Bank building and vault (Apothecary’s Daughter)
Scandia Mercantile
Elim Church
Farmer’s Bank Building (Dickin’s Pickins)
Meister’s Bar & Grill (historically Shalanders Store)
